Béatrice Serre has revitalized the age-old art of mosaic with her exuberant, futuristic creations. 

Her compositions of profound, jubilant power are crafted from fragments of  materials unearthed from the depths of the earth, both precious and unconventional.

 

Using ancient Greco-Roman and Byzantine techniques of stone cutting, Béatrice meticulously breaks down the raw mineral matter, transforming it into a myriad of tesserae. She assembles the pieces following the subtle alchemy of the materials, unlocking another dimension: the mosaic comes out of its frame and permeates three-dimensional space.

 

Employing contemporary techniques (of which she is often the innovator), Béatrice is able to assemble various components without any apparent joints, giving the illusion that their fusion is a whim of nature.
